Use of cell and molecular biology and in vitro and in vivo models to investigate mammalian immune regulation. How dietary supplements affect the immune response in mammals, specifically the role of beta-glucan on the immune response to inhaled chitin, an abundant polysaccharide that is associated with allergic asthma.  The intention of this research is to apply the knowledge gained from the mouse model to benefit the health and well being of domestic animals as well as humans. Working in collaboration with Dr. W. Willis to investigate how mushrooms alter the immune system of chickens.
