Reddy Receives Professional Soil Science Certification

Greensboro, NC: Dr. G.B. Reddy of North Carolina A&T State University was recently named a certified professional soil scientist by the American Society of Agronomy. Certification makes Reddy a recognized expert in the field of soil science, and enables him to testify and consult on soil science issues with the endorsement of the field's professional organization.

Reddy, who has been a member of the A&T School of Agriculture faculty since 1979, is a professor in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design and coordinator of its graduate studies in plant and soil sciences.

His recent research efforts have concentrated on the use of wetlands with swine facilities and bioremediation, and the restoration of sites contaminated by pesticides and other chemicals.

In the past, Reddy focused his research on nitrogen and its impact on the environment, specifically in the areas of cropping systems and surface water contamination. Additionally, he has been instrumental in securing over $1.3 million in federal research money for the efforts of the A&T Agricultural Research Program.

Reddy played a major role in establishing a graduate program in A&T's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design, has published over 30 articles in professional journals, presented numerous research papers at national and international conferences, advised graduate students as far away as Norway, and served on professional organization committees. He served as a White House Appointee to the Blue Ribbon Panel of the Department of the Interior during the Bush administration, and is recognized by Who's Who in the World.

Reddy received a B.S. and an M.S. from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in India, and a Ph.D. in Soil Microbiology from the University of Georgia.
