Grant to Assess Program's Impact
November 18, 1996
Greensboro, NC: A USDA-CSREES grant will enable two North Carolina A&T State
University Cooperative Extension specialists to assess the impact of their environmental
education program.
Drs. Bob Williamson and Ellen Smoak recently received notice of the $8,600 grant from the
USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service's Natural Resources
Environment Management Division.
Williamson and Smoak will use the grant money to assess achievements and impacts of the
"Down to Earth" program. "Down to Earth" is designed to provide
children, ages 9 to 12, with an opportunity to use gardening and the scientific method to
explore how using chemicals in gardening affects plant growth, human health and the
environment.
