Elanco Scholarship Announced
June 11, 1999
Greensboro, NC: Elanco Animal Health and North Carolina A&T State University have announced a new scholarship program, which will help students expressing an interest in agriculture meet the financial demands of higher education.
Each semester, Elanco Animal Health will award up to five A&T students enrolled in the School of Agriculture an Elanco Animal Health Scholarship, which provides each student with $1000 to be applied toward educational expenses.
To be eligible for an Elanco Animal Health Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 grade point average, submit an application of interest, show leadership and campus involvement, and be nominated by a faculty member. An A&T committee then reviews the applications and forwards ten recommendations to Elanco Animal Health, which chooses the scholarship recipients from this pool.
The scholarship is part of a continuing relationship between the NC A&T School of Agriculture and Elanco Animal Health. Joint efforts to increase minority presence in agriculture and animal husbandry include faculty exchanges, internship programs and Elanco Animal Health's representation on the A&T School of Agriculture's Recruitment and Retention Advisory Council. Elanco Animal Health has also hired several A&T graduates.
"Elanco Animal Health is an invaluable partner to our School of Agriculture and its students," said Dr. Richard Robbins, associate dean for instruction for the A&T School of Agriculture. "Because there is a shortage of qualified graduates in many agriculture-related fields, the direct link between industries and universities takes on increased importance. By working closely together, we're able to fully prepare students to enter the workforce prepared for successful careers."
Elanco Animal Health is one of the oldest divisions of Eli Lilly and Company. It exclusively serves animal health markets. Elanco serves livestock agriculture on a global scale, providing animal health products for virtually every country producing food animals.
North Carolina A&T State University, located in Greensboro, North Carolina, is a land-grant institution founded in 1891 in accordance with the Second Morrill Act. Since its establishment, the university has become a leader in the preparation of minority professionals in such fields as agribusiness, veterinary medicine, landscape architecture, plant and food science, and engineering.
