Reddy Named Outstanding Research Scientist

Greensboro, NC: Dr. G.B. Reddy was named Outstanding Research Scientist of the Year by the Agricultural Research Program of North Carolina A&T State University. The award was presented during the annual retreat of the A&T Agricultural Research Program.

Reddy has been a member of the A&T School of Agriculture faculty since 1979, when he arrived at A&T as an associate professor. Since, he has assumed the titles of professor and graduate program coordinator in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design.

For the last fifteen years, Reddy has focused his research on nitrogen and its impact on the environment, specifically in the area of surface water contamination. This work has taken him from the fields of North Carolina to such places as Zambia and Zimbabwe. Additionally, he has been instrumental in securing over $1.3 million in federal research money for the efforts of the A&T Agricultural Research Program.

His recent research efforts have concentrated on bioremediation, the restoration of sites contaminated by pesticides and other chemicals.

Reddy played a major role in establishing a graduate program in A&T's Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Design. At the program's inception in 1987, three students were enrolled. Since, the average annual enrollment has increased to more than 20 students. Furthermore, as a result of an international research effort, he has served as a graduate advisor of a Ph.D. student from the Agricultural University of Norway.

Reddy has published over 30 articles in professional journals and presented numerous research papers at national and international conferences. He served as a White House Appointee to the Blue Ribbon Panel of the Department of the Interior during the Bush administration, and is recognized by Who's Who in the World.

Reddy received a B.S. and an M.S. from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University in India, and a Ph.D. in Soil Microbiology from the University of Georgia.
