May 31, 1996
Greensboro, NC: The Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics at North Carolina A&T State University has been granted approval status by the Commission on Accreditation/Approval for Dietetics Education of The American Dietetic Association.
Approval is given to programs that are in compliance with the Standards of Education set by The American Dietetic Association. Graduates of the A&T program will have executed the first stage of becoming a registered dietitian. After graduation, they are eligible for an accredited/approved supervised work experience. Following the work experience, aspiring dietitians must pass a registration examination before becoming registered dietitians.
Registered dietitians work in a variety of settings and positions. Common roles for the registered dietician are: clinical dietitian, consultant, nutritionist, research dietician, food service administrator and/or educator. Most all dieticians function as managers and educators in addition to their primary responsibilities.
"Food is a part of everyone's daily life, and there is a constant need for nutritional scientists who understand the importance of a good diet in maintaining health and fighting disease," said Dr. Daniel D. Godfrey, dean of the North Carolina A&T State University School of Agriculture. "We are pleased to be able to provide opportunities for people interested in this rewarding career."
