Rouse Receives Extension Grant for Innovative Curricula

Greensboro, NC: Dr. Shirley Rouse, a 4-H and youth development specialist in North Carolina A&T State University's Cooperative Extension Program, was recently notified of a $25,000 North Carolina Cooperative Extension grant.
The program enhancement grant will be used to print curricula project books and activity
guides, which were developed by subject specialists with assistance from Rouse, to be used
by 4-H programs involving children between the ages of five and eight.
"The K-3rd Grade Youth Program" is an age-specific curricula available in North
Carolina for the 80,000 4-H participants in the 5- to 8-year-old age group. The curricula
uses cooperative learning, group dynamics and experiential learning to enhance youth
development.
"The K-3rd Grade Youth Program" is an outgrowth of the NC A&T Cooperative
Extension Program's involvement with "Partners in Learning," one of the first
4-H programs in the country specifically designed for 6- to 8-year-old 4-H members.
