NC A&T to Host National Youth Entrepreneur Symposium

February 7, 1997

Greensboro, NC: The North Carolina A&T State University Cooperative Extension Program will host the Fifth National Youth Entrepreneur Symposium on March 25 to 28, at the Holiday Inn Four Seasons Koury Convention Center in Greensboro.

The symposium is sponsored by the National Coalition for Empowering Youth Entrepreneurs, and will provide technical assistance to teens who are interested in starting a business, and adult professionals and volunteers interested in entrepreneurial programs for youth.

Thirty-six seminars will take place during the course of the symposium, and will cover a large range of topics, such as basic bookkeeping, ethics, conflict resolution, customer relations and entrepreneur readiness.

The keynote speaker will be Ayinde Shomari Couvil Jean-Baptiste, the youngest speaker at the 1996 Million Man March. Ayinde has been a guest on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and the "Today Show." He also had a cameo role in Spike Lee's "Get on the Bus."

Other highlights include business tours, forums, exhibits, and overviews to model youth development programs. Nightly entertainment, including a dance and a talent show, is also on the symposium's agenda.

Participation is limited to the first 600 registrants. To register or for a folder with a complete listing of symposium workshops, call James Miller at (919) 286 9758, or the North Carolina A&T State University Cooperative Extension Program at (336) 334-7956.

The Youth Entrepreneur Symposium was first held in Baltimore, in 1993, and was held in Long Beach, California last year.
