Turner Authors Housing Book

February 4, 2000

Greensboro, NC: Dr. Carolyn Turner, associate professor in the North Carolina A&T State University Department of Human Environment and Environmental Sciences, recently co-authored a textbook to be used in secondary schools.

"Housing Decisions" is a 543-page book covering housing topics from the cultural influences of housing to careers in housing. It is intended to be used nationwide in family and consumer sciences classes in high schools and junior high schools.

Dr. Evelyn L. Lewis of Northern Arizona State University wrote the original edition of the book in 1978. In revising the seventh edition, Turner used information provided by the publisher regarding changes to housing curricula nationwide. She then revised, added and deleted sections of the text, as well as photographs, to meet identified curricula changes.

Turner has been a housing researcher at A&T since 1982. Her recent research has focused on energy efficiency in manufactured housing.

The book, now in its seventh edition, is published by The Goodheart Wilcox Company, Inc. of Tinley Park, Illinois. Turner will complete the eighth edition in two years.
