A&T Department Chairperson Elected to National Position

Greensboro, NC: Dr. Rosa Purcell, chairperson of North Carolina A&T State University's Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, was recently elected vice chairperson of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences' (AAHEFS) College and University Section.
Purcell was elected to this position during the AAHEFS 87th Annual Meeting and Exposition, held June 29-July 3, in Nashville, Tennessee. Approximately 2,000 professionals in the family and consumer sciences and allied fields, including representatives from leading businesses, members of the media and public officials from around the world, attended the meeting.
Also during the meeting, Purcell presented a workshop entitled, "AAHEFS: What Difference Can We Make?" This workshop focused on public policy issues and sought to provide participants with skills in finding resolutions within the association that address public areas of concern.
Purcell joined the A&T faculty in 1981, and became chairperson of the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences in 1994.
Founded in 1909, the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences is an organization of members dedicated to improving the quality of individual and family life through programs that educate, influence public policy, disseminate information and publish research findings. Representing nearly 17,000 professionals in the family and consumer sciences, AAHEFS members include elementary, secondary and post-secondary educators and administrators; cooperative extension educators; and other professionals in government, business and nonprofit sectors.
