A&T Ag Scientists Present at Regional Meeting

Greensboro, NC: Several agricultural research scientists and graduate students from the North Carolina A&T State University School of Agriculture recently presented papers at the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists annual meeting in Birmingham, Alabama.
In the Agricultural Economics section:
Dr. Alton Thompson presented "Adoption and Use of Fertilizers by Farmers in Central
Mali," a paper by Dr. Anthony Yeboah and Raphael Okafor.
During a symposium organized in part by Dr. Donald R. McDowell, Dr. William A. Amponsah
presented a paper entitled, "Sustaining Community Development Through Agribusiness
Development."
Amponsah, as chair of the Southern Regional Trade Research Group (S 256), both organized
and served as a moderator for a workshop entitled, "USDA National Research Initiative
(NRI) Competitive Grants Workshop on Markets, Trade and Rural Development."
Dr. Godfrey C. Eijmakor and Jimmy Zuniga presented a paper entitled, "Assessing the
Impacts of Socioeconomic Variables on U.S. Agricultural Policy."
McDowell organized a symposium entitled, "Measuring Consumers' Judgement: A Pragmatic
Approach Involving Ecotourism Analysis." Thompson and George Flemming participated in
the symposium.
Amponsah and Dr. Kofi Adu-Nyako presented "Determinants of Use of Government Export
Promotion Programs by Agribusiness Firms in North Carolina."
In the Agronomy Section:
Dr. Charles Raczkowski presented the results of A&T's tillage research in the areas of
runoff and soil loss. These data resulted from research involving Raczkowski, Aminu Yaro,
and Drs. Godfrey Gayle, Manuel Reyes and G. B. Reddy.
Data involving the soil physical properties and crop growth of the tillage research were
presented by Aminu Yaro.
In the Rural Sociology section:
"Discovering Aquaculture: A Trend in Agriculture," a paper by Drs. A. P. Bell,
Austin M. Bull and Francis O. Walson, was presented by Bull and Walson.
A paper entitled, "The 1990 Farm Bill Training Implementation Plans on Sustainable
Agriculture for Cooperative Extension Professionals of Limited Resource Farmers in North
Carolina," and written by Bull, and Drs. John O'Sullivan and M. R. Reddy, was also
presented by Bull.
Dr. Carey L. Ford and Walson also presented "Laboratory Safety Practices Among
Agricultural Education Teachers in North Carolina."
