“Combine Peace Corps and Graduate School…”

Having trouble deciding between graduate school and the Peace Corps? You can do both when you enroll in the Peace Corps Master International (MI) Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T). Students in the MI program complete their classroom work at N.C. A&T, then spend two years overseas as Peace Corps volunteers. Peace Corps provides medical care, living expenses and other support for volunteers while they are overseas. A truly global experience, the MI Program at N.C. A&T enables students to graduate with a unique combination of an advanced degree and two years of substantive professional experience in an international setting.

Our department offers two majors for the MI Program:

• MS Agricultural Economics
• MS Agricultural Education

The MS degree in Agricultural Economics offers a concentration in (1) Agricultural Marketing and International Trade; and (2) Rural Development Policy. The MS degree in agricultural economics also offers the thesis and non-thesis options.

The MS degree in agricultural education offers a concentration in (1) Professional Service and (2) Secondary Education.

The course work for the MI Program will consist of a minimum of 30 - 37 semester hours of academic study, depending on the program pursued. The Program will consist of 12 semester hours in core courses, and a minimum of 9 - 21 semester hours in concentration courses.

Application:

Prospective students must apply to and be accepted by both the Peace Corps and the North Carolina A&T Graduate School.

Admission requirements include a 2.65 GPA on a scale of 4.0 and a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. A pplicants may be admitted to the master’s degree program on a provisional basis if the record of undergraduate preparation reveals deficiencies that can be removed near the beginning of graduate study. GRE scores are not required for admission.

Assistantships:

Most of the students in the department receive some type of financial aid. Assistantships are also available to aid in faculty research. These are awarded on a competitive basis, and applicants are encouraged to apply early.

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is a land grant university, committed to education, research and extension. Some of the resources available to students in the Master’s International program in the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences include the International Trade Center, which helps small-scale businesses in the state establish international trade, and the 600-acre University Research Farm which maintains herds of cattle, goats, sheep, poultry and swine, and conducts environmental, agricultural engineering and production trials.
