Youth Gardening: Down-to-Earth & Garden Mosaics

 

Program Description:

This program demonstrates a two-prong approach that shows how socially,economically and environmentally, there are many opportunities that can be gained from school and community gardens within a changing agricultural state.

Target Audience:

The primary audience are youth (ages 9-18) in school enrichment programs, organized 4-H clubs, after school programs, nature centers, summer youth camps and traditional school settings. The secondary audience is elders and youth educators

Goals and Objectives:

The ultimate goal is to expand the pool of youth who will seek undergraduate degrees in agriculture.

 

The objectives include:

· provide science-based experiential activities for youth to enrich their learning through gardening,

· get youth and elders to investigate the mosaic of plants, people and cultures in school and community gardens,

· encourage youth and elders to join forces to enhance their community, and

· get youth to discover and explore life-skills for personal development.
