Share Yourself Community Volunteer Mentor Program

Program Description:

Share Yourself is a community volunteer program that matches volunteer coaches with Work First participants. These volunteers share life skills, work experiences, offer advice and encouragement and many other positive qualities. What they provide helps Work First participants deal with everyday problems that often prevent them from being successful on the job and in life.

The program was developed by North Carolina Cooperative Extension, which is sponsored by North Carolina A&T State University and North Carolina State University, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services. The program is offered in local communities by your local Cooperative Extension Center and the county Department of Social Services.

Target audience:
The training is designed for adults recruited to become mentors for Work First participants.

Goals and Objectives:
The training is designed to teach community volunteers to successfully develop a mentoring relationship with Work First participants.

At the end of the training, the volunteer will be able to:

  • Support, advise, and teach skills that help Work First participants cope with problems at work and at home.
  • Contribute valuable community service that strengthens the community by helping Work First participants retain jobs.
