Program Guide  | Online Registration | Directions to the Farm | Parental Waiver

The University Farm at N.C. A&T State University provides an interactive farm experience for elementary students to explore the wonders of agricultural science. During the spring and fall months, the farm is used as an outdoor classroom in a hands-on and inquiry-based environment. Students are engaged in experiential, interdisciplinary activities that teach them how food they eat is produced and about the environmental consequences of agricultural practices on soil and water quality.

The fall and spring tours run from 8:30 a.m. to noon weekdays September and October and April and May.  Competencies from the N.C. Standard Course of Study are integrated into the farm’s Discovery Learning Stations. Use this guide to help plan your visit to The University Farm.

The educational tours are $2.00 per student.  Advance registration is required and is accepted on a first come, first served basis. Completed registration may be sent by mail, FAX or e-mail. Use a separate form for each class. If booking programs for multiple classes, use one registration form for each school and include total number of students from each class.

Once the registration is processed, a confirmation packet including directions and logistics will be mailed to you. Check the materials carefully to ensure accurate dates and confirmation times.

We have a limit of 25 to 30 students per group, but can divide large groups to achieve this goal. There is no minimum group size.

We require a 1-to-10 staff to child ratio. Your chaperones must remain with the tour for the entire visit.

All parents of participating students must have signed a Consent, Release and Waiver of Liability form. No child can participate in the tour without the completed forms.

If you need to cancel your program, please notify our office 24 hours before your visit. In the event of rain or other inclement weather, we will cancel your program and do our best to reschedule your group.

Trained staff will guide your students through hands-on activities relating to agriculture and the environment. Each Discovery Station serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade with age-appropriate activities.

You must provide your own lunch and snack. If you bring a bag lunch, Barber Park, located 1.5 miles from the farm, has facilities for picnicking. You will need to contact Barber Park, operated through the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department, to determine space availability and accommodations.

Trolleys transport students to different areas of the farm, but some areas are not suitable for the trolleys. Your buses or vans will be used to transport students to areas where the trolley cannot travel.

Our staff will be happy to make suggestions concerning your class schedule and help you plan your agenda.

Petting of animals at the University Farm is not permitted by visitors, to reduce the risk and exposure to disease. This policy is in keeping with new guidelines from the N.C. Department of Agriculture. Contact with animals can spread disease- especially to children younger than 5, as well as to the elderly, pregnant women and people with low immune systems. Although petting animals is not permitted at the farm, students and other visitors must wash their hands in the restrooms and portable hand-washing stations provided at the farm.
