Exploring Survival Issues Among Minority Farm Operators in North Carolina
Objectives
The main goal of this project is to acquire knowledge of the small and minority farmer and help transform them into profitable farm businesses in order to stem the decline in number and economic performance of these farms.
The specific objectives of the project are as follows:
To obtain base line information on small and minority farmers in North Carolina to better orientate the School of Agriculture in its efforts in the area of teaching, research and extension.
Risk management needs of limited-opportunity and small farmers.

Enhancing the Information Technology Capabilities of the School of Agriculture.
Objectives
The School of Agriculture at North Carolina A&T State University and USDA is collaborating to implement this teaching project that aims to strengthen the teaching program within the School by addressing an innovative approach to developing an instructional delivery system, faculty preparation, and curricula design and development. It is also expected to attract new students and ultimately improve enrollment. The specific objectives are:
- Upgrading the School's computer equipment to include access to the Internet;
- Training faculty to use the Internet and integrate it into teaching curricula;
- Training faculty to develop courses for the Internet (Information Highway or WWW).

INTERNATIONAL INVOLVEMENT
Integrated Pest Management (IPM CRSP) Project: Peri-urban Horticultural Development in Mali, West Africa.
Objectives
IPM CRSP is an initiative of USAID. Its purpose is to foster IPM through collaborative research btween U.S. and LDC institutions for their mutual benefit by improving their abilities to develop and implement economically and environmentally sound crop protection methods. Other participating U.S. institutions include Lincoln University, Montana State University, Ohio State University, Penn State University, Purdue University, Rodale Institute Research Center, University of California/Berkeley, University of Georgia, USDA Vegatable Lab, and Virginia Tech. North Carolina A&T State University's involvement is in the development of peri urban horticulture in Mali. The host country institution is IER.
