 Dr. Alton Thompson, professor and deanSchool of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences On July 1, 2000, Dr. Alton Thompson became dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental and Allied Sciences. Thompson has been chairman of A&T's Department of Agriculture Education, Economics and Rural Sociology and director of the university's Applied Survey Research Laboratory since 1996. Thompson began his career as an assistant professor at Norfolk State University in 1981. He came to A&T for the first time a year later. He spent seven years in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology before going to N.C. State as an assistant professor. He returned to A&T in 1991 as an adjunct associate professor. Thompson is a member of the American Agricultural Economics Association, the Rural Sociological Society, and the Southern Rural Sociological Association.
