Department Introduction
Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education

The students, staff and faculty of the Department of Agribusiness, Applied Economics and Agriscience Education encourage you to explore the exciting opportunities available in agricultural education, extension education, agricultural economics and agribusiness at one of the nation’s premiere land-grant universities, North Carolina A&T State University.

The mission of the Department is to provide opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds to achieve excellence, through intellectual and technological advancements, in agricultural education, agricultural economics and rural sociology that will cultivate and enhance their potential for global leadership, productivity and competitiveness.

In support of this mission, the Department has an extensive array of educational and research resources, including an Applied Survey Research Laboratory, a Natural Resources Conservation Service Social Sciences Institute, a Center of Excellence in International Trade and an Agromedicine Program.

Students majoring in Agricultural Education have a dual-major option, and options for the second major include agricultural science, animal science, plant and soil science, agribusiness and marketing, sociology, and horticulture. The agricultural education curriculum gives students flexibility to develop an additional course concentration in animal science, horticulture, agricultural engineering, agricultural economics, food processing, or another technical aspect of agricultural science.

Students majoring in Agricultural Economics blend courses in the technical aspects of agriculture and business with general education and economics courses. Agricultural economics majors may add a concentration in rural sociology to their undergraduate preparation. Agribusiness majors take 18 semester hours in business administration and accounting, in addition to core requirements in economics and agricultural economics.

Students have flexibility in the design of their educational experience to qualify them for diverse academic and nonacademic employment opportunities. Job placement rates exceed 90 percent, with recent graduates quickly advancing up the educational and/or corporate ladder.

Come join us, experience "AGGIE PRIDE," and take advantage of the many opportunities in the Department. We are confident that you will be impressed with our dedicated students, experienced staff and "intellectually aggressive" faculty, our commitment to students and the quality, and the competitiveness of our programs.
