            <title>New malunggay   talk of Old  Dominion</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p><img src="http://www.ag.ncat.edu/agedispatch/images/headshots/Manuel-Reyes.jpg" alt="Dr. Manuel Reyes" width="100" height="146" hspace="5" vspace="5" align="right">The current issue of <em><a href="http://www.outreach.vt.edu/Publications/OutreachNow/index.html">OutreachNOW</a></em>,  an annual full-color magazine published by Virginia Tech&rsquo;s Office of&nbsp; Outreach and International Affairs, has an  article&nbsp; entitled &ldquo;Hot Commodity&rdquo; that  updates some of the research work in a project for which<strong> Dr. Manuel Reyes</strong>, an SAES professor of biological engineering, is principal  investigator. Reyes has been leading a team of scientists who were awarded a  $1.2 million grant from the United States Agency for International Development for  agroforestry and sustainable vegetable production research in Southeast Asia.  According to <em>OutreachNOW</em>, &ldquo;By reintroducing native foods in a region  plagued by poverty and degraded natural resources, researchers hope to teach  farmers how to use and conserve plants, improve family nutrition by  diversifying the diet, increase incomes, and enhance biodiversity.&rdquo;]]></description>
