Dudley Award deadline is second Friday in December
Nominations forms for the 2008 Gilmer L. and Clara Y. Dudley Small Farmer of the Year Award are now available. The deadline for nominations — by members of the Cooperative Extension field staff — is Dec. 14. The selection committee, chaired by Theresa Nartea this year, is looking for a farmer earning less than $100,000 in annual income from a farm that nonetheless generates at least 50 percent of the farmer's total income. The committee is also looking for nominees who have been working closely with county Extension centers to come up with production methods and enterprises that are both innovative and profitable.
The Dudley Award will be presented at the Wednesday Small Farmer Recognition Luncheon during Small Farms Week: March 30 to April 5, 2008. To ensure that there aren’t conflicts with The Cooperative Extension Program at A&T’s annual celebration of small-scale agriculture and Easter holiday plans, Small Farms Week will not occupy its traditional third-week-in-March slot in 2008.
