Proposal preparation and budget balancing
Dr. Thessalenuere Hinnant-Bernard, an SAES housing researcher and an assistant professor with the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, was among the A&T faculty members invited to conduct seminars for A&T students in the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. Research projects are required of McNair scholars, and Hinnant-Bernard 's part of the big picture was a workshop covering "Writing the Research Proposal."
A&T was one of 14 universities selected in 1989 to pilot a program named to honor the late Challenger crew member and A&T alumnus Ronald E. McNair. It has since grown into a major Department of Education scholarship program, serving thousands of students at colleges and universities across the United States. For an overview of the program's national scope, visit http://www.ed.gov/programs/triomcnair/index.html. For a look at the McNair Program at A&T, go to http://www.ncat.edu/~remcnair/homepage.htm.
Hinnant-Bernard was also recently invited to present a financial planning workshop for students in the Student Support Services Program, which provides counseling and special support to A&T students who are from low-income families, are first generation college students, have physical handicaps and meet other criteria.
