Lite illumination

Mary Mafuyai-EkanemIn mid-April at the National Extension Risk Management Education Conference in Phoenix, Mary Mafuyai-Ekanem of The Cooperative Extension Program at A&T gave a presentation on the work she and other members of the Extension staff (Drs. Keith Baldwin and John O’Sullivan) have been doing to promote the Agri-Lite Insurance program among minority and female farmers. Now in its second year, Agri-Lite offers small-scale producers farm revenue protection from natural disasters and market fluctuations, and also an insurance program for less traditional crops and farm enterprises that were previously uninsurable. Mafuyai-Ekanem and the Extension staff have been collaborating with the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, and community-based groups to help farmers understand farm recordkeeping systems and other business documentation they need to qualify for Agri-Lite Insurance.
