Equine examiners off to excellent start
In existence for only seven months, North Carolina A&T’s horse judging team nonetheless held its own at its first major intercollegiate competition at Middle Tennessee State University during the first week of April. Four members of the 10-member horse judging team were selected to travel to the competition, which drew 12 teams from universities across the country, including such traditional horse judging powerhouses as Kansas State, Virginia Tech. and the University of Florida.
The traveling squad for the horse judging team was composed of SAES students Carla Thomas, Laura Marley, Anna Miller and LaTisha Moody. The team finished eighth overall, and placed fifth
in one of the three primary sub categories that comprise a collegiate horse judging competition.
Dr. Rusty Miller, the horse judging team’s faculty advisor, has an even more ambitious challenge on the docket for next fall. He plans to enter the Aggie horse judging team in the competition at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio in October, an event that draws 650,000 people and more than 16,000 horses.
