Poultry policies

Biosecurity measures already in place at the University Farm are going to be enforced to-the-letter in response to an outbreak in Rockingham County of infectious laryngotracheitis, a contagious respiratory disease affecting poultry. Until further notice, visitors will not be allowed in any area of the Poultry Unit at the University Farm. Classes using the unit will continue as scheduled, but standard hygienic and biosecurity precautions will be emphasized. With the exception of the commercial flock in Buildings A and B, there is to be no transfer of poultry to or from the University Farm until further notice. Any questions or concerns regarding the laryngotracheitis outbreak and biosecurity measures should be directed to the SAES's poultry specialist, Dr. Willie Willis.

Hi Doc Willis. I am originally from Liberia now living in Charlotte NC. I am seriously considering returning home. I have over 75 acres of land and want to raise cattles to offset the shortage of beef on the national market. But, I don't have the slightest idea how to start and what is require to care for the animals.I am wondering if there are specific courses I could take to equip me for the task at hand. Please advice.

Best Regards.
