Farming 101

A&T Extension’s Wake County Extension agent, Morris Dunn, and DeShon Cromartie, an A&T Extension associate at the helm of the Farmer-to-Farmer mentoring program, are coordinating a six-session series of programs for beginning farmers this summer. The programs are tailored to farmers and landowners interested in fruit, vegetable and flower production on a small-scale or part-time basis. The programs are also going to cover the basics of marketing farm commodities directly to consumers.

There is no registration fee, and participants who are unable to catch the entire series are nonetheless welcome to attend individual programs. All the programs will begin at 9 a.m. and wind up by 11 a.m.

The next program, on Wednesday, June 28, will be focused on blueberries, cut flowers, mulches, marketing and establishing a customer base.

Loyied and Barbara Norris, the winners of the 1998 G. L. and Clara Y. Dudley Small Farmer of the Year Award, will be hosting all the Farmer-to-Farmer mentoring workshops at their southern Wake County farm.
