Looks like 18 is his lucky number

Larry Hartsfied of USDA's Rural Development agency is now stationed in Webb Hall as USDA's 1890 liaison for North Carolina A&T State University. Hartsfield takes over for J. C. Brown of the Forest Service, who has returned to Forest Service's Southern Region offices in Atlanta following his term as A&T's USDA liaison.

Hartsfield launched his 18-year USDA career with a bachelor's degree in Ag. Education from A&T. As the university's 1890 USDA liaison, he will be working with student recruitment and retention, and to help line up SAES students with internship and employment opportunities with USDA's 18 agencies. Hartsfield is also going to be monitoring the progress of USDA's 1890 Scholars working towards degrees in the SAES.

USDA is currently accepting applications for the 1890 National Scholars Program for the 2006 academic year. The highly competitive program provides recipients full tuition, room and board, books, employment and other benefits for all four years while they are working towards a bachelor's degree. All 2006 application materials for high school seniors applying to become USDA 1890 Scholars at A&T must be sent to Hartsfield, postmarked no later than January 15, 2006. Complete details are at http://1890scholars.program.usda.gov.

Larry Hartsfield's phone line is 336.334.7709, ext. 2006; his fax is 336.334.7580; and his e-mail is LDHartsf@ncat.edu.
