The Landscape Architecture ProgramCan I be a Landscape Architect?Sure, why not! Anyone that has a strong interest in combining art with the natural and physical sciences should be successful. Mind you, it will not be easy. You will find that history, art, geography, speech, math, physics, biology, geology, soils, plants, anthropology, and sociology, just to list a few courses, will become the fundamental foundation for your education in becoming a landscape architect. In addition to the pencil and pen, computers have become a common tool for the designer. In a design office you may use a computer to prepare project cost estimates using a spread sheet program; prepare reports or documents using a word process program; prepare drawings using a CAD (computer aided design) program; and/or make large scale planning decisions using a GIS (geographical information system). Be prepared to use and become familiar with a computer if you haven't used one before. Your stay here will require a lot of discipline, hard work, and many long nights in the design studio. After all, how many professions do you know of where you can design an outdoor space, have your project actually get built, and bring pleasure to those using the space?
