Lab Facilities
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Design has eight state-of-the-art laboratories for both basic and applied research. Departmental resources include a biotechnology lab; extensive facilities for soil and water conservation studies; and an analytical lab equipped with a nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer, a gas chromatography-mass spectrometer, and an atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Campus greenhouses are used for teaching and research, and A&T’s 560-acre agronomic research and demonstration farm is less than two miles from campus.
Our laboratory facilities include sample preparation and analytical laboratories. Plant and Soil Sample preparation laboratory is located at the research farm. Soil science laboratories are in Carver Hall. The equipment includes Atomic Absorption Spectrometer, Colorimetric devices, Organic chemical extraction facilities, Shakers, Soil and Plant digestion blocks, Ovens, Centrifuges and other related instruments. In addition, the students have the access to the modern soil, water and waste analytical facilities available at the Analytical Services Laboratory in Carver Hall.
Campus Resources
Graduate students in Plant, Soil and Environmental Sciences have access to extraordinarily sophisticated computer resources at North Carolina A&T. The University’s historic commitments to applied sciences and amalgamation of technological advances into curriculum have positioned A&T among the educational institutions at the forefront of the computer-driven revolution in information processing.
Another outstanding resource for graduate students at North Carolina A&T is the Bluford Library, now housed in a 153,428 square-foot facility which was completed in 1991. Bluford’s collections of books, journals, government documents and primary research materials are now listed in an on-line catalog, and through Bluford’s facilities, students have access to catalogs and interlibrary loan services at more than 11,000 other libraries.
